What is Cannabigerol?
You’ve all probably heard of THC and CBD, but what is this lesser know cannabinoid CBG? and why is surfacing recently? and what is so special about it?
CBG or Cannabigerol is referred to as the stem cell of the cannabis plant, and its acid form CBGA (the inactive form of CBG) breaks down and becomes the base molecule that other cannabinoids form from such as THC, CBD, and CBC.
CBG is currently considered as a non-psychotropic, meaning it won’t affect your state of mind in a way that would alter your everyday function and mental state… However, it can alter your mind in a way that could potentially relieve the feeling of depression and anxiety. So, ultimately, CBG will not get you the same kind of high that the psychoactive THC would.
Alternatively, CBG could actually counteract the effects of THC on us where it could activate the CB1 receptor just as CBD does, which essentially decreases psycho-activity.
CBG often accounts for less than 1% of the plant’ s total cannabinoids, yet modern-day growers are now experimenting with augmenting the levels of CBG in said plants.

Why CBG? What are its benefits?
Early studies are showing that CBG may be a promising treatment for several conditions, but this is still not definitive. What we know until now is that CBG possesses several properties that can assist in the treatment of several conditions such as:
- Glaucoma and relief for intraocular pressure.
- Staph infections, such as MRSA “Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus”
- Inflammatory bowel diseases
- Skin inflammations
- Potentially even a cancer growth inhibitor.
Many more potential remedies and treatments are being derived from CBG, so it is just a matter of time until we fully utilize this component, but for the time being let’s just all enjoy this wonderful plant!
